Cy Pres is a doctrine that permits a court to award any unallocated, unclaimed, or undeliverable funds from a settlement or judgment to a non-profit organization. As Rhode Island's oldest non-profit civil law firm, Rhode Island Legal Services ("RILS") has been fighting for more than 50 years to provide low-income and hard-working Rhode Island families across the state with the access to justice they deserve - at no cost to them. Because of this work, RILS is eligible to receive nominations and awards for cy pres funding.

RILS' multi-faceted approach combines legal services, litigation, and education to break down barriers and enable and empower some of the most underserved populations to lead productive, healthy lives.
